WORKSHOPS
Empowering Girls in Engineering and Robotics (EGER)
Workshop Overview
EGER consists of five free workshops, each held on the last Saturday of every month. They will be 3 hours long (with breaks!), held over Zoom, and consist of two main parts: an activity and time to meet some women who are working in engineering right now. The workshops are for girls in grades 4 through 8, and any background in STEM is welcome. Continue reading if you want to learn more about the individual workshops, and please contact me with any questions.

Aerospace Engineering
Build-a-Plane
The first workshop in the EGER series focuses on aerospace engineering, a branch that focuses on developing and studying technologies for air and spacecrafts. The activity will teach engineering principles through building a paper plane. In the last portion, students can talk to two guest speakers currently working as aerospace engineers: Professor Namiko Yamamoto and Ciera McFarland from Penn State University.

Build-a-Bot II
The third workshop in the EGER series focuses on robotics, an interdisciplinary field which designs and builds machines that assist with and replicate human tasks. The activity will teach engineering principles through an online, interactive activity of programming robots. In the last portion, students can talk to a woman currently working in robotics: Professor Yunsi Fei from Northeastern University. Girls will also learn about various robotics opportunities they can become involved with in middle and high school.

Electrical Engineering
Build-a-Circuit
The fifth and final workshop in the EGER series will focus on electrical engineering by exploring sensors. Students will learn about what goes into a sensor, how it works, and what it can be used for through an interactive activity. They will also meet a panel of women who work in electrical engineering and with sensors. Signups coming soon.
